Record Coal Exports through Abbot Point
Coal exports out of Abbot Point set a monthly record in June with 1,658,998 tonnes loaded in 21 ships.
“While cautiously optimistic we consider this a very good sign for future demand,” said CEO of North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation Limited (NQBP), Brad Fish. “The previous record was set in December 2002 with 1,549,396 loaded in 20 ships.”
NQBP remains on track to deliver capacity of 50 mtpa with works on the X50 Expansion Project running on schedule.
“We look forward to providing an increase in capacity by 2011 meeting the future demands of the industry,” said Mr Fish.
Hay Point also managed by NQBP as the Port Authority also had a very good month with combined throughput from DBCT and BMA reaching 7,291,151 tonnes.
“Hay Point has also has also seen a significant increase over the past few months. In January of this year the combined throughput was 5,099,761 and has steadily increased,” said Mr Fish.
